Central Asia is a region in the heart of Asia. An essential link in the Silk Road, which connected East and West, the region is renowned for its long history. The region is characterised by a variety of landscapes, from rocky mountains to vast steppes and deserts. Turkish, Persian and Russian traditions have all influenced the distinct culture of each nation, which is reflected in its languages, rituals and historic sites.
Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Tajikistan – Kyrgyzstan
From endless steps and arid deserts to spectacular mountains and verdant oases, creating a unique and varied natural setting, Central Asia offers an impressive diversity of landscapes.
The capitals of Central Asia are dynamic cities, brimming with history and culture. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is a historic hub marked by centuries of commercial and cultural exchanges. Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, stands out for its architectural aesthetics. Bishkek, in Kyrgyzstan, is framed by mountains, presenting an impressive natural backdrop. Finally, Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, is a tranquil city that bears the imprint of Persian culture and whose history has been shaped by the Silk Road.
Central Asia has a predominantly continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. There can be significant temperature variations from one season to the next, with values falling below zero in winter and rising above 40°C in summer. Mountains, such as those found in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, enjoy a cooler climate, marked by very harsh winters.
