Asia is the cradle of major religions such as Buddhism and, to a lesser extent, Hinduism. Our destinations are home to many places of worship. Temples, incense, statues, pagodas – a whole religious lexicon is used to describe these places of unparalleled energy, on whose value believers and non-believers alike agree. With these escapades, we propose to take travelers on an initiatory journey of spiritual discovery within our destinations.

A spiritual mosaic

A predominantly Buddhist country, Vietnam is at the crossroads of a multitude of influences, from Chinese and Khmer to Hindu, with the emergence of the Champa kingdom. Later, French colonisation brought with it Christianity. Today, Vietnam is a remarkable mosaic of religions that coexist peacefully. From the north to the south of the country, our escapades open the doors to the most beautiful temples, pagodas and churches, not forgetting those of tai chi and meditation, while enjoying vegetarian dishes!

The most religious country in Asia

Thailand is reputed to be the most religious country in the world, with over 90% practising Theravada Buddhism. There are also Muslim, Hindu and Christian minorities, all of which have a major influence on Thai culture. The many golden temples, the monks wearing the traditional saffron-coloured kesa, and the smell of incense are all part of the landscape. These escapades allow you not only to discover the most emblematic places of worship, but also to take part in a procession ceremony and blessing of the monks.

Animist Buddhism

In Laos, religion is at the heart of daily life. Theravada Buddhism is practised by the vast majority of the population. It is, however, unique in that it is accompanied by ancestral animist practices. The landscape is dotted with temples and the rhythm of life is marked by spirituality, as evidenced by the famous Baci ceremony for calling back the souls, which is performed at every important moment in life. This getaway is an introduction to meditation and a chance to discover the religions present in Laos.

Cradle of shamanism

Although the majority of the population has no particular religious beliefs, South Korea is nonetheless a hotbed of spirituality. In addition to the temples immersed in an abundance of nature, the country is the cradle of shamanism, one of the oldest beliefs on the peninsula, long before the arrival of Buddhism. This escapade offers a few days in Seoul devoted to discovering these two of the country’s main religions.

Beliefs within the Khmer Empire

Cambodia is a country where the Hindu and Buddhist religions competed for centuries within the Khmer empire. Today, however, Cambodia represents a synthesis of these two religions. From Khmer shamans to Buddhist monks, from sanctuaries in the mountains to the imposing temples of Angkor, this escapade leads the travelers to discover the religions present in Cambodia.
