The Complex of Koguryo Tombs

Located in Pyongyang and the surrounding provinces, the Complex of Koguryo Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage site since July 2004, is an exceptional testimony to the Korean heritage and well-preserved culture of the Koguryo dynasty, a Korean kingdom that existed for almost 7 centuries from 37 BC to 668.

The site includes several tombs used for the burial of kings, members of the royal family, and the aristocracy.

The brightly colored wall art found on some of the tombs illustrates funeral customs, daily life and religious practices associated with Buddhism and Taoism.
